The foundation of the rapid prototyping process is a 3D
CAD file, either created by the client or by IMIRP on their
behalf.
From the CAD file, accurate SLA (stereolithographic) or SLS (selective laser
sintering) models can be produced, sometimes in a matter of hours. In their
raw state, or after finishing and painting, these models can be used for visualization,
form, fit and function tests, or utilized as mould masters to form silicon
and resin tools.
In turn, these tools can be used to manufacture polyurethane parts designed
to simulate a wide range of production materials. Waxes can also be cast and
used to make metal components via the investment process.
