Low Volume Production
Although the techniques of rapid prototyping are well suited to producing one off or small pre-production quantities, they can also be adapted to be able to satisfy much larger volume requirements.
SLS builds can accommodate hundreds of parts, particularly if they are comparatively small, thereby avoiding the need for any form of tooling.
RIM casting in polyurethane can produce many hundreds, if not thousands of parts from relatively low cost tooling. This can be extremely useful where the required volumes do not warrant injection moulding, or the parts are literally too big to produce that way.
